Welcome one and all to the BDBA Monday Triples League 2025.
I am preempting the publication of the 2025 fixtures by a couple of weeks to update you all on the format of the league for the coming season.
Last year, 2024, went reasonably well but was hampered by two things. Firstly the weather did us no favours at all and several matches had to be cancelled or rearranged. Secondly the season went on too long, 18 weeks was always an ambitious target and I thank all teams for completing their games.
Taking both the above into consideration and also taking on board other feedback I have received I have decided to make some changes for 2025.
The first round of matches will take place on Monday 12th May.
The season will last for 15 weeks with a one week break in May to keep the Mayday Bank Holiday free. I am aware that Captains sometimes struggle to get a team together on Bank Holidays. This also ensures that the season will be completed before August Bank Holiday Monday.
In 2025 the league will be divided into 3 divisions instead of 2 based on finishing positions in 2024. The Premier and First Divisions will consist of 6 teams and the Second Division will consist of 7.
The Premier and First Divisions will play each other home and away over weeks 1-10. Weeks 11-14 will be a new set of fixtures based upon league position that I will send out immediately after the completion of week 10. Should any results be pending due to postponements then the positions at midday on the Tuesday after week 10 will be used.
Those fixtures will be worked out thus.....
Week 11 1st vs 3rd 2nd vs 5th 4th vs 6th
Week 12 3rd vs 1st 5th vs 2nd 6th vs 4th
Week 13 1st vs 2nd 3rd vs 4th 5th vs 6th
Week 13 2nd vs 1st 4th vs 3rd 6th vs 5th
The Second Division will have 7 teams and will be a complete round robin with all teams playing each other home and away.
The top two teams in the First and Second Divisions will be promoted at the end of the season. Conversely the bottom two teams in the Premier and First Divisions will be relegated.
Should any club secretaries or team captains have any questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will do my best to explain and advise.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all of the revised point scoring system as per the decision taken at the AGM. This season each winning rink will receive 2 points and the winning team will receive 1 point for the overall score. Should a rink score or the overall score be tied then points will be shared as per normal.
Finally, I am waiting for one club's entry form before I can send out the fixtures and an updated contact list. Should your club have made any changes then please let me know asap.
